Gympie Ultimate Steam Festival
Gympie Mining Museum
The Gympie Gold Mine and Historical Museum will be lighting the 20,000 litre Cornish Boiler to generate the steam to operate a 110 year old Walker Winding Engine, which was used to raise and lower the gold miners and their equipment into the shaft and to raise the gold ore produced, to be processed as well as bail the water from the shaft. These shafts were almost a kilometre deep.
At the same time, the Thompson steam powered 12 tool 2 stage air compressor, which provided the air used to power pneumatic tools down the mine will be operating. A small Hindley steam powered 110V DC generator will also be operating.

The machines will operate between 10 am and 3 pm on each of the 4 days and these will be supplemented by steam roller demonstrations, portable steam engines and other steam powered equipment.
The site of the Museum is that of the former No2 South Great Eastern Mine with some original relics still on site and an operational authentic steam winding engine, compound air compressor and generator reconstructed on the original footings.
The Museum will keep you busy discovering many things about Gympie and its' past, some of the things you will see are:
