Gympie Woodworks Museum
Woodworks The Forestry and Timber Museum provides a fascinating insight into the role of timber in Queensland and the Gympie region’s colonial beginnings. Discover how the pioneers worked the timber and how the industry evolved over the decades up to the 1950’s – from axes and adzes, to chainsaws and saw mills.

The Gympie WoodWorks Museum is situated just north of Gympie, approx. two hours drive north of Brisbane, Woodworks the Forestry and Timber Museum, is a living historical museum focused on the timber and forestry industries from their colonial beginnings up to the 1950`s.
The Museum includes a significant collection including pioneering handtools, timber samples, timber getting and forestry equipment and associated transport.
Features include:
- large selection of pioneering handtools used in timber getting and saw milling
- 619 year old Kauri Pine disc section
- bullock wagons
- blacksmith shop
- replica timber getter`s hut
- a replica of a 1860s steam driven bush sawmill
- 1925 Republic truck.

The Mary AnnThe Mary Ann is a faithful replica of the first steam locomotive built in Queensland in 1873, serving on timber lines in Cooloola National Park. Based in Maryborough, and operated by Volunteers, the replica is on its second visit to Gympie and will be running tours from Old Gympie Station during the festival. Click to read more... |
